The Innovation Process
Activity 3.4 A

Review the problem context

This activity will help you understand how other organisations, people, structures or processes may need to adapt to accommodate your proposed solution.

As you are looking to introduce the solution into a humanitarian context, there is a need to fully understand the different actors and people in that context.

We recommend that you reassess the humanitarian parameters for the proposed solution if you have not done so already using the Humanitarian Parameters Box exercise explored previously in the Recognition stage.

Once you have reviewed the parameters, be sure to capture this information and use it to complete the ‘Context’ section of your Adaptation Requirements Table.

Humanitarian Parameters Box

Use each of the sections of the Humanitarian Parameters Box to explore where you are proposing to introduce the solution in relation to the:

  • Humanitarian context
  • Disaster management cycle
  • Rules and regulations
  • Crisis-affected community
  • Problem holder
  • Humanitarian architecture

When you work through each section, ask the additional question:

  • What/who will need to make adaptations to their current way of doing things in order for this solution to work?

By doing this, you will geta good sense of how other organisations, people, structures or processes may need to adapt.
