About Elrha’s Humanitarian Innovation Fund

Elrha’s mission is to improve humanitarian outcomes through partnership, research and innovation. Our vision is a humanitarian system that is capable of innovating and adapting to meet the needs of today and tomorrow.

Operational since 2011, Elrha’s Humanitarian Innovation Fund (HIF) is firmly established as a pioneer and leader in the evolving field of humanitarian innovation.

The HIF supports organisations and individuals to identify, nurture and share innovative and scalable solutions to the challenges facing effective humanitarian assistance. In the years since the HIF has been operational, its efforts have focused on three broad elements:

  1. providing finance for innovations at different stages of their development
  2. providing specific support through targeted research, innovation management and partnership brokering
  3. engaging with and shaping the systemic and institutional environment for innovation

These three areas of work are mutually reinforcing, with innovation management approaches and strategic initiatives addressing the innovation ecosystem, drawing on and informed by our large and evolving portfolio of grant-funded innovation. These areas have developed incrementally as the HIF has grown in size and expertise.
